To help protect the durability and high-quality of your jewellery please remove items before applying perfume, lotions, makeup and hair products, or even better, put your jewellery on last when you are getting dressed.

Keep jewellery away from hot or damp conditions and avoid contact with water. Jewellery should always be taken off before the pool, shower or sea however you can get away with leaving cartilage hoops and studs in as they are designed to be left in and enjoyed everyday. However this is at you're own risk.

When giving your May Hofman jewels a break, always store it in its box away from other jewellery so that they don’t rub together or scratch. Plated and oxidised items will wear naturally over time. To clean gold plated, stainless steel and oxidised silver we advise using a polishing cloth, rub the piece in one direction rather than circular motions.

Particular care should be taken with gemstones to ensure that they do not knock against one another when stored. Clean your gemstones with a clean, soft, damp cloth after wearing. For cleaning dirt from behind gemstones and settings, take a very small amount of mild washing up liquid in luke-warm water and a soft toothbrush and gently rub until the dirt has been dissolved. Alternatively send back to us and we will clean and polish for you for a small fee. 

Take care to avoid extreme humidity or heat as this may cause tarnishing. Your gold plated and silver jewellery should be kept in a dark, cool and dry place. With time and wear, sterling silver will naturally become oxidised and eventually tarnish. Storing silver jewellery in a sealed plastic bag or airtight box when it is not being worn will keep out the air that causes oxidation. Also remember to keep your chains fastened so they don’t become tangled.
